DISCOVER THE FUN of whitewater paddling! This set of lessons is suitable for youth aged 10-14 who want to develop their whitewater paddling skills (please email us [email protected] if your 9-10 year old meets the prerequisites for this course)

GOALS

The goal of this program is to train water-smart paddlers who have the skills to paddle safely on lakes and rivers, and to foster an enjoyment and appreciation for paddlesports and the outdoors.

OUTCOMES

Participants will be introduced to a variety of paddling disciplines throughout this program and develop the skills necessary to pursue paddling either at a recreational or competitive level.

Pre-requisites: Must have completed an level 1 or level 1+ whitewater course, Learn to Kayak Rivers camp or equivalent. Target Age Range: 10-14yrs (youth up to age 16 welcome)

Lesson schedule: Please arrive ready to paddle. NOTE times may change

Wednesday afternoons 4.45-6.00pm [1 hour lesson with a focus on technique and skills development]

Sunday afternoons 3-4.30pm [park and play or river runs]

Events: test your skills - Mamquam River weekend Sept 30th - Oct 2nd, Cookie Race October 22nd

All equipment provided (kayak, helmet, paddle, PFD, spray skirt). For our fall programs we strongly recommend you purchase a well fitted wetsuit and neoprene gloves for cool weather days. Safety is our #1 priority - there will be a maximum student: instructor ratio of 5:1 on the river. All river paddles are weather, skills and water-level dependent.

COST (NOTE no lesson on Sunday October 9th)

Wednesday + Sunday [recommended] includes full day on Mamquam river Oct 2nd: $280

Complete package price (Wednesday + Sunday + full Mamquam weekend) = $300

Wednesday only (7x 1 hour lessons + Cookie Race): $140

Sunday River runs (6 x 90 minute lessons + Cookie Race): $175 (Includes full day on Oct 2nd)

Additional coaching fee if paddling both days for the Mamquam weekend = $45
