Have you completed a CCE Paddling Club summer camp or Intro to Kayaking course? Would you like to continue paddling, improve your skills and start to develop the skills needed to paddle on the river? Welcome to our river kayak beginner course for youth (level 1)!! Please also register here for level 1+, during the first lesson separate groups will be formed according to ability. Fall is the PERFECT time to learn to kayak on the river - water levels are generally low and the water is typically the warmest it will be all year! If you haven't paddled with us before: are you able to paddle in a straight line on a lake and calmly exit the kayak if you flip with a spray skirt on? If the answer is "yes" you are welcome to register. Questions? Email us [email protected]
This group will focus on developing the skills needed to safely kayak on the river: twice a week lessons will build skills much faster than once a week, therefore we encourage participants to also register for our Thursday afternoon Kayak Club lessons through the fall (member package price for both programs $225 - please register for both programs and tick "other" payment option to pay by etransfer). At the end of the fall club program we will have a fun “Cookie Race” (SATURDAY October 22nd).
NOTE: depending on registration numbers the group may be split into two groups based on ability: in this case the TIME of the lesson MAY CHANGE. Also NOTE Trip to Mamquam River (Squamish) planned for October 1st/ 2nd.
GOALS The goal of this program is to start to train water-smart paddlers who have the skills to paddle safely on the river, and to foster an enjoyment and appreciation for paddlesports and the outdoors. During the winter we will offer pool programs to develop additional skills such as the kayak roll.
OUTCOMES Participants will be introduced to a variety of paddling disciplines throughout this program and start to develop the skills necessary to pursue paddling either at a recreational or competitive level.
Target Age Range: 10-14yrs
MEMBER COST $150 (Saturdays x6 lessons + Cookie Race) Paddling equipment (Boat/ PFD/ helmet/ sprayskirt/ paddle and splash top) is provided. For our fall programs we strongly recommend you purchase a well fitted wetsuit, neoprene boots and neoprene gloves for cool weather days.
You must be a CCE Paddling Club member in good standing. If you are not yet a member, please follow this link to register: http://CCECanoeKayak.rampregistrations.com Please note that if you have already completed a summer camp with us you are already registered as a club member!
