These lessons are suitable for ADULTS who want to improve their whitewater kayaking skills. Prerequisites: You are already comfortable with wet exits and T-rescues and have started to develop your roll. You have been introduced to the concept of tilt/ angle and speed for entering and exiting eddies and have mastered the basic paddle strokes required to manoever on the river. You have experience paddling rivers up to easy grade 3. What will I learn? Use of tilt/speed/angle to make precise eddy entries and exits (helps with catching micro eddies), river reading and use of microfeatures to do ferries and manoeuvre on the river, use of waves and holes to make turns and change direction in the current. Note that the group size maximum is 6 people so the lessons can be tailored to the group's needs. Assuming the water levels are low, the lessons will be based at the Tamihi Rapids slalom race site - using the slalom gates forces you to make precise manoevers! Plus you are welcome to join us for a fun end of season "Cookie Race" Saturday 23rd October at our Cedarwahl Farms race site. All equipment can be provided (kayak, helmet, paddle, PFD, spray skirt) Safety is our #1 priority - there will be a maximum student: instructor ratio of 6:1 on the river. All river paddles are weather, skills and water-level dependent. Club membership required: $45 (adult) 3 lessons: $90 - A second set of lessons will be offered in October, pending instructor availability. NOTE: If you do not wish to pay using Paypal, please email us for details about paying by e-transfer. |
