COVID-19 update: safety is our number one concern. All equipment is disinfected between participants and physical distancing will be practiced on the water except where it would be unsafe to do so for emergency management.
Please note that we will not be teaching the kayak roll until further notice, due to physical distancing policies.
This set of eight 1 hour lessons is suitable for youth aged 10-16 who want to improve their whitewater kayaking skills. There is no lesson May long weekend.
The lessons will start at Cultus Lake to assess skills and confidence then progress to the river. The group may be split into two depending on experience, skills and numbers in which case your lesson might move to a later time.
LEVEL 1 Beginner: Must have completed an "Intro to kayaking" course or camp with at least 1 day on the river (or equivalent).
LEVEL 2 Intermediate: For youth who have completed the "Intro to Rivers" camp and/or have experience paddling easy (grade 1-2) sections of the river.
Schedule: Please arrive 5-10 minutes early and ready to paddle.
All equipment provided (kayak, helmet, paddle, PFD, spray skirt). Safety is our #1 priority - there will be a maximum student: instructor ratio of 4:1 on the river.
All river paddles are weather, skills and water-level dependent.
At the end of this set of lessons June 12/13th, or whenever COVID regulations permit, we will host a fun weekend of paddling in Squamish on the Mamquam +/- Cheakamus Rivers.
