Have you completed a CCE Paddling Club summer camp? Would you like to continue paddling and meet new friends? Or you have paddled a few times but want to improve your skills? Welcome to our Youth Kayak Club!! This group will focus on fun and games in the water - mostly at Cultus lake but we will also run some sessions at our flatwater slalom gates site (Cedarwahl Farms). We will introduce you to various different types of kayaking including an introduction to slalom racing as well as skills needed to start river paddling in the 2021 season.

The Youth kayak club is intended to be a year-round program: at the end of the fall outdoor session we will switch to indoor kayaking at the pool (COVID restrictions permitting) November through to Spring Break. If there's interest and parent volunteers available to help we could also organise monthly social events/ hikes etc.

In the last day of the fall outdoor club program we will have a fun “Cookie Race” (SATURDAY October 24th).

Target Age Range: 8-14yrs

Special 2020 price!! $75 (once a week for 6 weeks plus Cookie Race) or $150 (two lessons a week for 6 weeks plus Cookie Race). Usual cost $15/ lesson i.e. $90/$180.

You must be a CCE Paddling Club member in good standing. Please note that if you have already completed a summer camp with us you are already registered as a club member! Membership forms are attached below: if you are not yet a member, please complete a form for each participant and email to [email protected]. You will be given an opportunity to pay for membership when you register for this event: if you wish to pay by e-transfer please tick "other" payment option and email us for instructions.

PARKING at Cultus:
We are able to park 3 cars for free for 2 hours right in front of the boathouse on the gravel. The parking lot around the boat house is for-fee and regularly patrolled. There is free parking around the strip mall on the opposite side of the street ("Plaza Parking" see https://www.cultuslake.bc.ca/parking/)

WHAT TO WEAR:
YOU WILL GET WET!! Please check the forecast & dress for the weather. NO COTTON!! There are change rooms & washrooms at Cultus Lake
Bathing suit or swim shorts
Towel
Shoes that can get wet and stay on your feet (no flipflops or crocs)
If you wear glasses (or sunglasses) they should have a tether or strap so you don't lose them in the water.
Extra dry clothes
** If you have a wetsuit, or neoprene clothing, this will be perfect for the river or for cold weather days!*

For a sunny & warm day:
A synthetic long sleeve or light windproof layer in case you get cold when wet

For a wet/ cold day:
Thin thermal base layer +/- fleece if very cold
Rain jacket/ windproof layer (we do have some splash tops at the Boathouse at Cultus)
Wool socks will stay warm when wetMaximum group size is 12 paddlers. Covid 19 protocols will be in place (See website ccekayak.com for details) and sanitation supplies are available. Club boats and equipment are available to use.

This event will take place rain or shine, unless unsafe. See you at the lake!
