Details

This 6 week course is suitable for youth aged 10-16 who want to improve their whitewater kayaking skills. Must have completed an Intro to kayaking course or camp with at least 1 day on the river (or equivalent). The lessons will be tailored to the skills and confidence of the group.

Schedule:
Thursday evenings 6-8pm [at the end of this set, Thursday evenings will continue through July]
Saturday afternoons 3-5pm

NOTE after the last lesson you are invited to join us for a COOKIE RACE Friday JUNE 26th (cost included in course fee: Bring a dozen cookies, choose cookies to take home based on race time). Race will be held at Cedarwal Farms slalom site.

All equipment provided (kayak, helmet, paddle, PFD, spray skirt)

Safety is our #1 priority - there will be a maximum student: instructor ratio of 4:1 on the river. All river paddles are weather, skills and water-level dependent.

Club membership required: $25.
Course fee (11 lessons plus Cookie Race) $200, OR choose Thursday-only, Saturday-only options ($120: includes Cookie race June 26th)

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early and ready to paddle.

PARKING at Cultus:
We are able to park 3 cars for free for 2 hours right in front of the boathouse on the gravel. The parking lot around the boat house is for-fee and regularly patrolled. There is free parking around the strip mall on the opposite side of the street ("Plaza Parking" see https://www.cultuslake.bc.ca/parking/)

WHAT TO WEAR:
YOU WILL GET WET!! Please check the forecast & dress for the weather. NO COTTON!!
A wetsuit and splash top is recommended [The club has a some available]
Bathing suit or swim shorts:
Towel
Shoes that can get wet and stay on your feet (no flipflops or crocs)
If you wear glasses (or sunglasses) they should have a tether or strap so you don't lose them in the water.
Extra dry clothes

For a sunny & warm day:
A synthetic long sleeve or light windproof layer in case you get cold when wet

For a wet/ cold day:
Thin thermal base layer +/- fleece if very cold
Rain jacket/ windproof layer (we do have some splash tops at the Boathouse at Cultus)
Wool socks will stay warm when wet
